Last time we discussed the elements of Hip-hop on the music side of it and now we tackle the remaining elements which are Graffiti Art, Street Fashion and Language plus Street Entrepreneurialism. Sa ibang list or articles it’s only 4 or 5 main elements: DJing, MCing, Breakdancing & Graffiti and the rest are considered subcultures and some say Graffiti is not connected to hip-hop. If you didn’t catch the 1st part here’s the link: https://therealphs.com/elements-of-hip-hop-part-1/
4. Graffiti Art
In America in the late 1960s, graffiti was used as a form of expression by political activists. Gangs such as the Savage Skulls, La Familia, and Savage Nomads used graffiti to mark territory. (Wikipedia)
So parang vandalism kung baga with or without hip-hop or pedeng nauna na itong ginagawa before hip-hop came into the world.
4th element: Graffiti Art. Aerosol paint + artist + isang walang kamalay-malay na wall o ding-ding na dra-drawingan na sya ng kung ano-ano = Graffiti. Street art pedeng mong matawag and rampant din eto sa ‘Pinas. Tagging ang tawag sa mga public spray paint visual arts na madalas mo makita whether it’s a name, logo from bridges, building and other properties with the consent of the owner otherwise or kung walang consent, dito na papasok ung vandalism. Vandal ung mga gang names and logos dito sa ‘Pinas since you’ll usually see them in inappropriate places. Illegal or not, a majority says it’s visual art and freedom of expression but since we live in a real world with boundaries, laws, and shits kelangan natin maging responsible when doing graffiti.
